Many of the people that walk through the doors of my club ( that offers a special weight loss program) are dealing with overweight issues and some are even considered obese. When I ask them why they are here and what their goals are the majority tell me they want to lose weight because they are unhappy with the way they look. A powerful motivator, but the health concerns related to obesity and being overweight are far greater than not being able to fit into your jeans.
Inactivity and improper diet are the two main reasons why more people in Canada and North America are overweight than not. These two contributing factors are the reason we are reaching epidemic proportions and are causing and will continue to cause a huge strain on our health care system. Yes, genetics plays a part in the diseases and ailments we may be afflicted with, but lifestyle choices count for more.
Countless research studies show that being overweight increases your risk for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, joint injuries, muscle tears and so much more.
